FAQ
So you can start learning with confidence.
Here are the questions we hear most often from people considering or using Aiyori. If you don’t find your answer here, feel free to contact us.
Before you start
1.What kind of service is Aiyori?
Aiyori is an education platform that brings teachers, students and families together. It works for tutoring schools, private tutors, small classrooms, adult classes and in-house training. The teacher hands out videos, questions, worksheets and more. Students do the work and hand it in, and the teacher looks at it and returns it. Guardians can see their child’s progress and schedule.
Handing out, handing in, returning and keeping everyone informed are all in one place.
2.Does it cost anything?
It costs ¥400 per person per month (tax included). Guardians are free. You can try it free for 30 days. For classrooms outside Japan, it is US$2.99 per person per month (tax included).
See the Pricing page for details.
3.In which countries and regions can it be used?
Aiyori is available to classrooms in Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Canada and Mexico. Classrooms outside Japan use Aiyori in a web browser. For now, the iPhone and iPad app is available only on the App Store in Japan.
Each person chooses their own screen language from eight: Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Spanish, German and French.
4.Which devices and environments are supported?
You can use Aiyori in a browser on a computer (Windows or Mac), Chromebook, tablet or smartphone. Please use the latest version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or a similar browser.
For handwritten marking, we recommend an iPad that works with Apple Pencil. You can also write with a finger or a mouse.
5.Do I need to install an app?
No. Every feature works in a browser alone.
The iPhone and iPad app is available on the App Store (for now, only on the App Store in Japan). There is no dedicated Android app. On Android, please use a browser.
6.How do I get started with Aiyori?
A teacher creates an account and applies for a classroom. Once Aiyori has reviewed it, the teacher can register students.
Then invite guardians and hand out the first assignment. The detailed steps are in the User guide.
7.Can it be used for training at a company?
Yes. It is used as a separate “Workplace training” organization, apart from schools and classrooms, with no guardian or tuition features. It also supports login with company accounts (SSO) and exporting training progress as CSV.
See the For business page for details.
Step-by-step guides
8.Are there slides that explain how to use Aiyori step by step?
Yes.
・Library and courses (bulk import and handing out automatically on set days)
・Hand out YouTube videos
・Receive tuition by card
Every feature is explained in the User guide.
9.Can I hand out videos that are on YouTube?
Yes. Just paste the video URL, and students can play it inside Aiyori. The video is not copied into Aiyori; YouTube’s player is embedded.
Some videos have ads added by YouTube. See Hand out YouTube videos for details.
10.Can I add Quizlet word lists or my own questions all at once?
Yes. Paste word lists such as Quizlet sets, or a table of questions from a spreadsheet, and put as many as you like in the library at once. You can also choose many PDF, image and video files together.
See Library and courses for details.
11.Can I import questions I made in Google Forms?
Yes. Choose the forms on the teacher’s screen, and their questions go into the library. If a form was made as a quiz, the answers, marks and explanations come with it.
Aiyori can see only the forms you choose. Neither your Google account details nor the form responses reach Aiyori.
For teachers
12.How do teachers log in?
Teachers log in with a 6-digit code sent to their email address. There is no password.
When you create a classroom, you verify your identity once with an Apple or Google account.
13.How do students without an email address log in?
The teacher issues an ID and a PIN for each student. Students just enter three things: the classroom code, their ID, and their PIN. No email address is needed.
Right after registering a student, the teacher can send them a ready-made message with the login link, straight from that screen. With many students, you can register them all at once from a spreadsheet table or a CSV file.
14.How do I invite a guardian?
On the teacher’s screen, create an invite code for the guardian and pass it on. An invite code is valid for 14 days and can be used once.
Once the guardian signs up with the code, they can see their child’s progress and schedule.
15.What can I hand out?
There are 11 types: videos, questions, worksheets, read-aloud, word cards, live lessons, links, notices, items where students choose something such as a date, surveys, and voice or video messages from the teacher.
You choose who gets each one, by class or by student. You can also select students by the tags you give them.
16.Can I set in advance when something is handed out?
Yes. You can set when it goes out and when it is due. If you leave the date and time empty, it goes out immediately.
At the set time, it appears on the student’s screen and the notice is sent at the same moment.
17.How do handing in and marking work?
Students write directly on the screen, or take a photo of what they wrote on paper, and hand it in. The teacher marks the submission by hand in red, adds a score and comments, and returns it as it is.
The teacher can also reply with voice or video, or ask for a redo.
18.Can questions be graded automatically?
Questions answered by choosing, with a number, or with a word are graded automatically the moment they are answered.
Free-text questions, worksheets and read-aloud are graded by the teacher.
19.Do I need to upload lesson videos to YouTube?
No. Videos you record yourself are uploaded directly to Aiyori. There is no need to put them on an outside video site, and there are no ads and no recommended videos.
A video can be watched only by the students it was handed out to, their guardians, and the teachers of the classroom.
If you want to use a video that is already on YouTube, just paste its URL to hand it out (YouTube may add its own ads to YouTube videos).
20.Can I hold live lessons online?
Aiyori has no video calling of its own. You can hand out a Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Whereby link together with the lesson time.
Students can join the lesson with a button on their screen from 10 minutes before the start.
21.Can I use it together with other teachers?
Yes. The teacher who created the classroom can invite other teachers with an invite code.
Added teachers can do everything except classroom settings and payments.
22.Where can I check whether tuition has been paid?
On the teacher’s screen, you can see every student’s payment status in one list. For students paying by cash or bank transfer, the teacher presses “Mark as paid”.
You can also receive tuition by card. Once you connect your own Stripe account, Aiyori charges the guardian’s card on the billing day.
Students and guardians
23.What if a student forgets their PIN?
Tell the teacher. The teacher can reset the PIN on the teacher’s screen.
After a reset, the student has to log in again on every device.
24.What can guardians see?
For each child they are linked to by an invite code, guardians can see assignments, submissions, scores, the learning record and messages with the teacher.
They cannot see other children’s information.
25.What if there are brothers and sisters, or two classrooms?
One account can follow several children. The children can be in different classrooms.
Enter an invite code for each child.
26.What is “guardian consent”?
Students under 16 cannot hand in photos, video or voice, or exchange one-to-one messages with the teacher, until a guardian agrees.
On the guardian screen, the guardian reads what information is collected and who can see it, and then gives consent. Consent can be withdrawn later.
27.Can guardians read the messages between their child and the teacher?
Yes. Guardians can read all messages between their child and the teacher. They can also stop the messages.
Students have no way to contact other students.
How you are notified
28.How do we find out when a new assignment is handed out?
First, it appears on the student’s and the guardian’s screens.
Guardians are also emailed right after it is handed out. Students get the same email if an email address has been entered for them.
In the iPhone and iPad app, a notification is sent as well.
29.Can students use Aiyori without registering an email address?
Yes. Students can use Aiyori without an email address.
Adding one is optional. If the teacher or a guardian enters one, the student is also emailed when a new assignment arrives. It is not used for logging in. Students under 16 are not emailed until a guardian agrees.
30.Can I get a summary of the day?
Yes. A summary email arrives once a day: in the evening for guardians, in the morning for teachers.
It is sent only on days when there is something to report.
31.How do I stop the emails?
Every email contains a link to stop it. One tap is all it takes.
Guardians and teachers can also switch them under “How you get updates” in Settings.
32.What do notifications and emails say?
So that you can tell which child and what it is about, they include the child’s display name and the assignment title.
They never include message text, scores, the teacher’s comments or tuition amounts.
33.Will I be told before a live lesson?
The iPhone and iPad app sends a notification 30 minutes and 10 minutes before the lesson.
On the guardian screen of the app, an alarm can also sound before your child’s lesson.
Safety and privacy
34.What information about children is collected?
Display name, school year, birth year and month, the ID used in the classroom, answers and submissions, messages with the teacher, and the learning record. We also record operations on screens (screens opened and buttons pressed, not what is typed), and word card times and nicknames.
We do not collect an address, a phone number, the day of birth or location. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
35.Who can see a child’s information?
Only the child, their guardians, and the teachers of the classroom.
Other students, their guardians and other classrooms cannot see it. However, if the teacher chooses, students who did the same assignment can see each other’s word card nicknames and times.
36.Where is data stored, and when is it deleted?
Data is stored in Japan.
Files such as photos, videos, voice recordings and PDFs are deleted automatically 365 days after upload. Scores, comments and text messages stay.
After a student is withdrawn, submissions, messages, the learning record and the name are deleted 30 days later.
37.Are there ads? Is data used for other purposes?
We show no ads. We do not sell data.
No outside components for usage analytics or advertising are in the web version or the app.
However, when a teacher hands out a YouTube video, YouTube may add its own ads to that video.
38.What if something is wrong or upsetting?
Students and guardians can report it to Aiyori from their screens. The teacher is not told about the report.
Our safety measures are set out on the Security page.
39.What if we want to stop using Aiyori?
A guardian can withdraw their child from the guardian screen. A teacher can also withdraw a student.
Teachers and guardians can delete their own account after confirming with a code sent by email.
When something goes wrong
40.The email with the login code does not arrive.
Please check your spam folder. Also check that the email address was typed correctly.
If it still does not arrive, wait a little and send the code again. Issuing a new code makes the old one unusable.
41.A student cannot log in.
Check the classroom code, ID and PIN once more.
After repeated mistakes, logging in is blocked for a while. If the student still cannot get in after waiting, ask the teacher to reset the PIN.
42.What if a video will not play, or voice cannot be recorded?
Try again with the latest version of your browser.
In a browser that cannot record voice, you can choose a recorded file and send it.
43.How do I change the screen language?
Choose it from the language menu on the screen.
Notifications and emails also arrive in the language you chose.
44.What if my question is not here?
Send it from the Contact page. We answer by email.
