Material Library Guide

Library and courses

Materials you make once can be kept in the library and used again and again.
With a course, they go out automatically, in order, on the days you choose.

  1. For teachers

    Library and courses
    How to use

The library, bulk import, Google Forms and courses.
    Four steps.

  2. How it works

    Make, keep, hand out

Materials in the library can be handed out to any students or classes, as many times as you like.
A course hands them out in order, on set days and times.

    • Everything you can make in “Assign” (quizzes, word cards, worksheets, videos, links and more), except live lessons, can go in the library.
    • Materials stay in the library until you remove them. Worksheet and video files are not deleted while they are in the library.
    • Students never see the library. They only receive what you hand out.
  3. Step 1

    Put materials in the library

    There are four ways.

    • Make it in “Assign”, tick “Also save to the library” and hand it out.
    • Make it in “Assign” and press “Save to the library only” (it is not handed out yet).
    • Open something you handed out before in “Assigned” and press “Save to library”.
    • Add many at once with “Bulk import” in “Library” (next slide).
  4. Step 2

    Add many materials at once

    Open “Bulk import” in “Library”.

    • Flashcard sets: paste word lists, such as Quizlet sets, one pair per line. Separate lists with a “# title” line and paste as many as you like.
    • Question sets: paste a table straight from a spreadsheet. “question, answer” makes a typed-answer question; “question, answer, other choices…” makes a pick-one question.
    • Worksheets and videos: PDFs and images become worksheets, videos become lesson videos. You can choose many files at once.
    • Move the library to another classroom: export the library to one file and import it in another classroom.
    • From Google Forms: choose forms on Google’s screen and they become questions. If a form was made as a quiz, the answers, marks and explanations come with it.
  5. Step 3

    Hand out from the library

Choose a material in “Library”, choose who gets it (students or classes) and a due date, and hand it out.

    • You can hand out the same material again and again, to different students and classes.
    • Set a delivery time and it arrives at that time.
    • You can select who gets it by the tags you give students.
  6. Step 4

Hand out automatically with a course

With “Create a course” in “Library”, put library materials in order and choose days and a time.

    • Example: one word list every Monday and Thursday at 6:00.
    • Send to students or classes. A due date can be set as “days after it is handed out”.
    • The course stops after the last material. You can also “Pause” and “Resume” it.
    • Times follow the classroom’s clock. Items may arrive up to about 5 minutes late.
  7. Good to know

    Four things before you start

    To avoid surprises later.

    • Videos take a few minutes to convert. Until then they show “Preparing” and cannot be handed out.
    • Removing a material from the library does not delete what you already handed out.
    • Exported files do not include materials with files attached, such as worksheets and videos.
    • The library, bulk import and courses are used in the teacher screens on the web.
  8. About the name

“Blue comes from the indigo plant, yet is bluer than indigo.”

    — Xunzi, “An Exhortation to Learning”

    Students grow beyond their teachers.
Every teacher’s greatest hope is our name.
